S1 E98 — Why Can’t I Leave 26 Orphans for a Well Deserved Vacation?

It’s tough, right.  Maybe events don’t make us, but when something is taken away, that hollowness of missed experiences — speeding down Mammoth Mountain, leaning into the turns you carve, chatting in the 4-person quad chair on the way back up — those hurt.

Hi.  Welcome to Sunday’s Episode 98 in the first season of ” My 1-Year Natural Experiment” on this 6th day of October in the fall of 2019.

Isn’t there some way to avoid “working on the business?” I needed a vacation after listing 26 orphaned tasks on my to do list.

The next family reunion ski and snowboard trip, always taken over the extended President’s Day holiday each February, required planning which began as a meandering discussion in a group email.

Emma the Baroness spread the rumor about me:

Stevie is probably not coming. 😞  He is concerned about balance, and does not want to have the same difficulties as last year. Sorry I haven’t been much help looking for places at Mammoth.  Will look in next couple of days and report back. Does anyone like the idea of 2 big condos near each other at Aspen Creek?  Only because it would probably be cheaper for everyone.  Just throwing it out there.

And, I can’t say Zahn’s Holiday Tau helped that much.

“2”  Steve Zahn, 51: “As long as you defer to your own code of honor, you’ll feel good about what happens. Scorpio

Random ones that make me want change my sign.

It’s tough, right.  Maybe events don’t make us, but when something is taken away, that hollowness of missed experiences — speeding down Mammoth Mountain, leaning into the turns you carve, chatting in the 4-person quad chair on the way back up — those hurt.

“5”  Steve Greene, 34; Steve Guttenberg, 61: “Events don’t ‘make’ us anything.  Much depends on our interpretation of them and the next action we take.” Libra

Here’s a Holiday Tau I want to rip off.  If I can’t escape, then what’s next?  Laying sod.  Thanks Steve, I’ll borrow your’s today.

“5”  Steve Nash, 45:Get physical.  There are things that can be expressed, experienced, or released in movement that cannot get worked out any other way.” Aquarius

I’m down for some “hat” opportunities — especially given the amount of UV’s the sun over southern California pumps out. And, I’ll be laying sod today. But, maybe that’s a typo, you think?  Say yes anyway.

“2”  Steve McQueen (1930 – 1980): “You won’t be ready for the opportunity hat arises today, but say yes anyway.” Aries

I’m banking on Howey’s Holiday Tau to guide my actions this week.  There’s just so much to do.  And, I’m torn between devoting a day exclusively to one task over 7 days and repeating the routine.

Or should I break up the day with actions taken from each of my major tasks.  One involves deep concentration within a creative flow, but the other keeps a little momentum firing enthusiasm for each.  Hmm …

I want to believe WW&C’s Holiday Tau as much as any of these today.  I know what I don’t love — working on the business — and that’s what lies ahead of me.

“4”  Steve Winwood, 71; Stevie Wonder, 69; Stephen Colbert, 56: “What you genuinely love will become part of you while somehow still remaining fully autonomous.” Taurus

Firm believer, I am.  Throughout my career in technology working on innovative projects, this was our mantra.

“5”  Steve Carell, 57; Steve Martin, 74; Steve Wozniak, 69: “You’ll operate somewhere the rules have yet to be established.  The only thing worse than waiting for permission will be asking for it.” Leo

Thankfully, I’m not in a position where I have to worry about short-term or even long-term cashflow.  So in a way by following WW&C’s TauBit of Wisdom and absorbing what I love in my passion project, is like working on spec.  Thanks, Steve I graciously accept your offer.

“4”  Steve Aoki, 41: “Any work you do on spec will pay off, though perhaps indirectly.” Sagittarius

Honestly?  Recharging my batteries revolves around periods of concentration in solitude while tricking me into completing daily working-on-the-business tasks drains me.

“5”  Steve Harvey, 62: “Tune into what charges your batteries and what simply makes you busy in a non-work-related way.” Capricorn
