Context
How will our pandemic lives play out? Back to our continuing my series drawing upon the report from Deloitte and Salesforce’s “The world remade by COVID-19 Scenarios for resilient leaders | 3-5 years.”
We’re at step four: Assemble the alternatives for each force into internally consistent stories.
The Passing Storm
The COVID-19 pandemic shakes society but, after a slow start, is met with an increasingly effective health system and political response.
The virus is eradicated earlier than expected due to coordinated measures by global players to spread awareness and share best practices.
Their competence in the crisis renews trust in public institutions.
Despite being relatively short- lived, the pandemic causes long-term economic impacts.
Fiscal and monetary stimulus help blunt the shocks, but cannot reverse the losses that small businesses and lower- and middle-income individuals have begun to experience.
Tensions sharpen between socioeconomic classes.
The scenario story tellers assume governments communicate the severity of the pandemic and gets us citizens to take the crisis seriously and go along with the quarantine program. The virus’s spread is contained. No second wave materializes. Immunization works leading to prevention. The economy, while taking a hit initially rebounds near the end of 2020 and builds once we consumers feel more confident sometime after July 2021.
Evidence
“3” Steve Zahn, 51: “You know your best hours. Tackle the important things while you’re at your strongest and most alert. You’ll even have energy to burn at times of day that have been historically less productive for you, so schedule accordingly!” Scorpio
Oh great! At 3:45 pm, I’m at a low ebb, but I did actually get most of what I needed done this morning before and after my exercise break.
Random ones that make me want change my sign.
“5” Steve McQueen (1930 – 1980): “Most of the time that goes into a project will be the research, planning and prep work. The more organized and methodical you are, the better you’ll be at pulling this off.” Aries
Yahoo! Eureka! Aha! Such is the life of an idea packager. Now if only I was actualized, organized and not so curiously distracted like my muse, Leo da V!
“4” Steve Winwood, 71; Stevie Wonder, 69; Stephen Colbert, 56: “Put your back into the obvious things. Better to get your full energy behind the no-brainer than to waste fuel deliberating overcomplicated and multivariate scenarios.” Taurus
Wait, what are multivariate scenarios? Are you sure they too don’t need my back, no-brainer energy too?
“5” Steve Smith, 30: “Telling yourself to change without changing the environment, too, rarely works. But if all you change is the environment, chances are good that what’s inside will follow suit.” Gemini
Following suit, I like that. Is that like dress for success, only in a friendly environmental way? Like clean up my office?
“5” Steve Kerr, 54: “Struggle expends energy that could be used for surviving and thriving. When you catch yourself in a struggle, get still. Sink into the situation. If you hit a bottom, you can use that to bounce yourself up.” Libra
Well, this is the punch line for why Deloitte and Salesforce teamed up to help leaders make sense out of this pandemic crisis.

- Saw the movie, didn’t realize that one of my favorite authors, Michael Connelly — his detective Hieronymus (Harry) Bosch book series and Amazon Prime series — also wrote, “The Lincoln Lawyer” which I just finished. Gotta tell you I can’t not see his lead character (Mickey Haller, Bosch’s half brother) as anyone else but Matthew McConaughey.
