S3 E13 — Why?

Have you ever pushed the wrong button on your remote or tapped on a link by accident and found something very interesting?  No, me neither.

The Tau of Steves: What You Don’t Know Could Fill a Book

“5”  Steve Carell, 57; Steve Martin, 74; Steve Wozniak, 69: “You like to know what others are doing, but even more interesting to you is why they are doing it. You’re not content with the first reasons that surface. Your fascination kicks in with the deeper ones.” Leo

Hi and welcome to Friday’s Episode 13 in Season 3 of  My Paradoxically Normal Year” on this 19th day of March in the spring of 2021 — which is a three-year examination of how bits of wisdom changed during the “normal” pre-pandemic year and then in the pandemic year, and now months after.

Context

But, I’m so far behind in my publishing pipeline that my conscious mind detached from my finger and clicked on the bio of the source of the Holiday Tau — Holiday Mathis.

So?  I’m pretty sure this portion of her bio is what attracted me enough to engage in my 1-Year Experiment that wrapped up just as the pandemic forced a lot of us into remote work.

And, here it is where the beginning to the end of life as we’ve known it may be a few more vaccine shots — Fauci Ouchies — away.

Here’s the portion I enjoyed.

Life can seem at times to be chaotic and random. Humans are notoriously uncomfortable with randomness. Our brains have evolved to filter out most of it, so what gets through are the threats, the changes, and a small amount of “other” from which we are compelled to try make order, to look for a pattern, to come up with a theory, to construct a narrative, to dig into a belief about… is trying, like we all are, to find the pattern.

Evidence

So why is there no Holiday Tau for us — Zahn, Winkler, Emma the Baroness and me?  Especially since Emma the Baroness returned yesterday afternoon from four days at Mammoth Mountain for the family ski trip.

Random ones that make me want change my sign.

Thanks the Stevie — maybe from her years of singing love songs — here’s the missing Holiday Tau I expected.

“5”  Steve Smith, 30, Stevie Nicks, 72: “The work of love isn’t a doing/acting/fixing job today. The work of love is a listening gig, an ‘entering in the spirit of another’ practice, a task that encompasses receiving and relaxing.” Gemini

And, maybe more profound, but on the same wavelength marries our hearts with our spirit, eh?

“5”  Steve Aoki, 41: “The silence between two people is as unique as the sound of their shared language. As you listen to a quiet punctuated by words, you’ll hear clearly the heart’s intention.” Sagittarius

The older we get, and as I advised Executive MBA students and cautioned executive new hires to reframe from was blurting out how we handled that at (my former company) you have to guard against, because it gets old quickly.

“5”  Steve Howey, 42:What you’re hearing will mentally trigger a story about the time it happened to you, but you won’t tell that story. Instead, you’ll give your support generously without flipping focus your way.” Cancer

Maybe because I’m addicted to Michael Connelly’s Bosch series and more than I expected to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Microft Holmes series, I want to dig deeper.

“5”  Steve Carell, 57; Steve Martin, 74; Steve Wozniak, 69: “You like to know what others are doing, but even more interesting to you is why they are doing it. You’re not content with the first reasons that surface. Your fascination kicks in with the deeper ones.” Leo
